Charles John Pollak, Jr., son of Charles John Pollak Sr. and Lydia Bertha (Redwick) Pollak, was born August 5, 1939 in Chicago, Illinios. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Martini’s Lutheran Church in Chicago. He attended Sawyer Elementary and graduated from Westcott Vocational High School. On October 1, 1960, Chuck enlisted in the United States Air Force serving his country honorably until January 22, 1963.
Chuck was united in marriage to Marilyn M. Brummer on November 30, 1963 at the St. Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa. Seven children were born to this union: Janeen, Pamela, Deborah, Mark, David, Gregory and James.
Chuck worked as an insurance agent for State Farm Insurance for forty years and LaSalle Casualty Compensation for three years. He was very active in the community of Denison, serving on the Planning and Zoning committee, Senior Center board, coaching Little League baseball, acting as the President of the local Coffee Club for many years, and being a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus. Chuck served as a church usher and worked in the kitchen at bingo night at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where he was a member since 1965. He retired from the insurance business in January of 2006.
In Chuck’s pastime you would find him doing yard work, playing cards, fishing or enjoying a round of golf. Chuck loved time with his family being a husband, father and grandpa.
On August 10, 2017, Chuck died surrounded by his loving family at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, attaining the age of seventy-eight years and five days. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Pollak, Sr., granddaughter Morgan Pollak, stepfather John Gizevich and in-laws, Sue Pollak, Vince and Mildred Brummer.
Chuck is survived by his mother Lydia Gizevich of Manilla, Iowa; his wife, Marilyn Pollak of Denison; children: Janeen Eddie of Owatonna, Minnesota; Pamela Hand and her husband Tim of Grimes, Iowa; Deborah Shouse and her husband Jeff of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Mark Pollak and his wife Shana of Henderson, Nevada; David Pollak and his wife Shelley of Overland Park, Kansas; Gregory Pollak and his wife Laura of Altoona, Iowa; and James Pollak and his wife Katie of Carlisle, Iowa; grandchildren: Derek and his wife Anna, Neil, Meghan, Madison, Blake, Colin, Charlie, Chance, Marissa, Shaylee, Grant, Hadden, Tessa, Quinlan, Brinkley, Eden, Boaz, Moses, Lydia Lane, Ayla, and Emryn; brothers: LeRoy Pollak and Stan Gizevich and his wife Erika; sisters-in-law: Nadine Dukes and Delores Hickey and her husband Jerry; brothers-in-law: Gene Brummer and his wife Lois and Denny Brummer and his wife Penny; special nephew Dana Grefe and his wife Melodee and their family, Bradley and his wife Cara and Leo; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crawford County Hospice, Crawford County Senior Center, or the Charity of your choice.
