Charles E. Slater

Charles Emil Slater was born at Denison, Iowa, March 7, 1933, the son of Carl and Hattie Groth Slater. He was raised on the farm and, after receiving his education in the rural schools, he farmed with area farmers. For 29 years, Charles was employed with the Highway Division of the Iowa Department of Transportation. Upon retirement, he made his home in Denison. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, riding horses for Dr. Ty Long and having coffee twice a day with is friends. Charles died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 79 years, 1 month and 15 days. Including his parents, Carl and Hattie Slater, Charles was also preceded in death by three brothers: Jim, Bob and George; and one sister, Maxine Clinton. Those remaining to cherish his memory include two sisters: Carol Brus of Denison, Iowa, and Florence Kennedy of Anaheim, California; sister-in-law, Dorothy Slater of Denison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Private family graveside services and inurnment were held Friday, April 27, 2012, at Oakland Cemetery with Dan Pfannebecker conducting the service.
