Cindy Hulsebus
February 13, 1949 — June 30, 2024
Cindy Hulsebus was born on February 13, 1949, to Don and Carol Hopp in Harlan, Iowa. She attended Harlan Community Schools from elementary through high school, graduating with the Harlan High School Class of 1967. After graduation, she attended Drake University and received her degree in Pharmacy in 1972.
Cindy married her long-time friend Keith Hulsebus on October 20, 1973, at Harlan Methodist Church in Harlan, Iowa. They were the proud parents of Diane, Mark, and Sarah.
Cindy was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church in Harlan, where she enjoyed singing with the choir. She was also a member of Sarah Circle and helped with children's activities over the years.
Professionally, Cindy was a pharmacist at Myrtue Memorial Hospital for 34 years. She took great pride in her work and valued the relationships she built with both colleagues and patients. After retiring, Cindy was a volunteer with the Myrtue Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary, where she enjoyed being back in the hospital environment.
Cindy and Keith shared a passion for travel. While the kids were growing up, planning a summer trip was a top priority each year. The family traveled thousands of miles with their pop-up camper in tow. As empty nesters, Cindy and Keith continued their travel adventures. Some of their notable trips included two visits to Europe, as well as travels to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, and several mountain destinations such as the Rockies and Yellowstone.
Cindy was incredibly proud to be a grandma and loved going to her grandkids' activities. She enjoyed watching them grow up and was always excited to support and celebrate their achievements.
Cindy loved her flowers. She enjoyed finding new plants and building new flower beds. Cindy found great joy in bird watching, and the birds continued to bring her smiles in the nursing home where Keith always made sure her feeders were full.
On June 30, 2024, Cindy passed away peacefully at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Carol Hopp.
She is survived by her husband Keith Hulsebus of Harlan, IA; children Diane (Don) Petsche of Ankeny, IA; Mark (Darla) Hulsebus of Nemaha, NE; Sarah (Todd) Dille of Georgetown, SC; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; siblings Larry (Linda) Hopp, Gary (Jodie) Hopp, and Kris Sterler all of Harlan, IA.
