Clinton Lee Akers, age 63, passed away in Denison, Iowa on November 22, 2023, surrounded by his family. Clinton was born in Iowa City, Iowa on October 4, 1960, to Leonard Lavern Akers and Lore Ann Heller. He had two brothers and five sisters. And he grew up near Manilla, Iowa. He married Robin Basner on May 14, 1994 in Early, Iowa and made his home in Eagle Grove for many years.
Clinton enlisted in the Iowa National Guard in 1982 and served his country for 12 years. He was a hard worker and was employed most of his life as a factory worker. One of Clinton’s proudest accomplishments was going back to school and becoming a diesel mechanic.
Some of Clinton’s favorite hobbies included camping and fishing, cooking, playing cards and spending time with his family. Although Clinton didn’t have any children of his own, he thought of his nieces and nephews as his children. If you ask any of his nieces and nephews about Clinton, they will get a smile on their face and tell you about a good memory they have about Uncle Clint.
Clinton fought a hard battle with cancer and was taken from us way too soon. It is with heavy hearts that we mourn him at a time when we should be cherishing his presence in our lives. He was looking forward to the next chapter of his life and sharing his laughter and light with his friends and family. When after getting the news of his illness, he made spending time with his family his highest priority.
Clinton was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Akers and mother, Lore Ann Heller; his brothers Thomas Akers and Earl Akers; his sisters, Linda Stehr, Jody Pullen, and Ruth Moritz; his nephew Thomas Plagge, and great nephew Sean Keiner.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Robin of Eagle Grove, siblings Midge (Dean) Carstensen, and Kathy (Devlyn) Cooper all of Denison, and numerous nieces and nephews that loved him very much.
Clinton’s family would also like to acknowledge his lifelong friend Myron Plagge who was always there for Clinton throughout his life.
You are dearly missed, Uncle. Those beautiful moments you shared with us will remind us of the great man you were. Rest in eternal peace.
