Clyde E. Kohl, son of Julius and Georgia (Nixon) was born on November 29, 1938 in Koch Ridge, Arkansas. He was baptized at the Christian Church and attended church in both Harlan and Audubon over the years. Clyde went to 11 schools throughout his childhood; starting in Arkansas and finishing in Oakland.
On June 11, 1960 Clyde was united in marriage to the love of his life, Linda Walker at the Jacksonville Lutheran Church. To this union, they had five children: Cindy, Tammy, Kate, Clyde D. and Steve. Clyde worked at the Avoca Alfalfa Mill for 12 years and the Nishnabotna Valley R.E.C. for 30 years before his retirement in 2000. He also farmed a few acres and was the owner of Kohl Electric where he worked part-time.
One of Clyde’s favorite hobbies was flying his airplane. He attended the air craft convention in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and loved taking children on young eagle flights. Clyde also enjoyed scroll sawing, gardening, working on a home built airplane and bee keeping.
Clyde passed away peacefully at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 attaining the age of eighty years, five months and nine days. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Alma Lois and his granddaughter Nicole Matthews.
Left to cherish his memory, his wife of 58 years Linda Kohl of Harlan, Iowa; children Cindy and her husband Chuck Matthews of Harlan, Iowa; Tammy and her husband Mike Kolbe of Harlan, Iowa; Kate and her husband Irv Jones of Harlan, Iowa; Clyde D. Kohl and his wife Abby of Harlan, Iowa; Steve Kohl and his wife Karla of Jefferson, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings Delores Bolte of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Ken Kohl and his wife Patti of Avoca, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
