Colen Robert Findlay, “Cole”, was born on November 25, 1952 to Dale and Marcia (Stofferson) Findlay in Harlan, Iowa. He attended the Harlan Community Schools, graduating with the Class of 1971. He went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State University in 1976.
Following college, he returned to the Harlan area and began farming. He farmed on the family farm until 2000 when he became self employed as a painter. He was united in marriage to Sara Dalbey on November 11, 1988. They became parents to two children: James and Amanda.
He loved to fish and his usual accessories besides a fishing pole were a cigar in his mouth and a beer in his hand. Cole was a sports fanatic, especially about football, cheering on the Chicago Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Cole died suddenly on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa at the age of sixty-three years, four months, and fourteen days. He was preceded in death by his father and his brother Roc.
He is survived by his wife Sara Findlay of Panama, Iowa; son James Shields and his wife Kaila of Beaver Lake, Nebraska; daughter Amanda Findlay and her fiancé Marcus Erwin of Harlan, Iowa; two grandchildren: Camden Shields and Madden Rooney; mother Marcia Burger of Cassville, Missouri; brothers Bill Findlay and his wife Maryann of Minatare, Nebraska, Mark Findlay of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and David Findlay and his wife Ande of Persia, Iowa; other family members and many friends.
