Colleen Fay Schwiesow Deages was born to Lena (Vinke) and Walter Schwiesow on June 18, 1935 in Rural Apsinwall, Iowa. Colleen was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance, Iowa. She attended school and graduated from Manning High School in Manning, Iowa.
Colleen found the love of her life when she met Larverne J Daeges. The two were united in marriage on January 23, 1954 in Des Moines, Iowa. To this union six children were born, Steve, Nick, Joe, Ron, Becky and Bill. Colleen was a full time housewife and stay-at-home-mom.
Colleen's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her. She enjoyed going to their sporting events - especially baseball and softball games. They always knew when she was there as they could hear her cheering loudly from the stands. She was also a huge Creighton Baseball fan. Two of her grandsons attended college and played baseball at Creighton. She enjoyed playing cards (rummy, pitch and cribbage) and sometimes could be a poor loser unless she was playing against any of her grandchildren - she always let them win. She liked to travel and some of her favorite trips were to California, Las Vegas and the Black Hills. Colleen enjoyed cooking. Fried chicken, homemade cinnamon rolls and onion rings were a few of the kids favorites. Whenever grandchildren stayed with her, she spoiled them with endless pancakes and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.
Colleen passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lena and Walter Schwiesow; husband, Laverne Daeges; and son, Nick Daeges.
She is survived by her children Steve (Sue) Daeges of Council Bluffs, IA ; Joe (Joy) Daeges of Irwin, IA; Ron Daeges of Harlan, IA; Becky (Randy) Miller of Portsmouth, IA; Bill Daeges of Omaha, NE; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brother, Vic (Donna) Schwiesow of Manning, IA; sister-in-law, Marita Theulen of Defiance, IA; other family members and many friends.
