Connie Colleen Wise
January 31, 1941 — April 18, 2023
Connie C. Wise was born on January 31, 1941, at home on a farm outside Shelby in Harrison County, Iowa. She was one of nine children born to Virgil and Irene (Kubelck) Turk. She attended Shelby school until the 2nd grade when the family moved to a farm in McClelland. She finished grade school in McClelland and graduated from Underwood in 1958. After graduating high school, she worked at Mutual of Omaha until 1962.
Connie loved to dance and rarely missed attending local dances on the weekends. One weekend she attended a dance at the Acova dance hall and met a young man named Francis Wise and the rest is history. They married on April 14, 1962, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avoca, Iowa. They were the proud parents of four children: Michele, Mark, Renee, and Lynette. Francis and Connie raised their children on the family farm outside of Avoca. Connie was a homemaker and a farmer's wife which made her a jack-of-all-trades; including raising her four kids, fixing meals for the men, helping put up hay, walking beans, moving cattle, hauling grain during harvest, bookkeeping and whatever else made the home and family farm run smoothly. They loved attending weekly dances. They moved to their house in Avoca in September of 1993.
Connie was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avoca, where she taught CCD classes and participated in many volunteer activities. If you knew Connie, she could always be found in the stands cheering on her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed her numerous card clubs, bowling, reading, putting puzzles together, going to the casinos (especially with her sisters) and enjoyed doing the newspaper's daily crossword puzzle and Sudoku right up to her last days.
Connie passed away on April 18, 2023, at home with her family by her side at the age of 82.Connie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, parent-in-laws, Paul and B. Beatrice Wise, and Bernadette Kirlin Wise, brothers, Edward "Buzz", Gordon, Wayne, Larry Turk and sisters, Beverly Turk, LaDonna Parish, Karen Larson, brothers-in-law, George Wise, Mike Wise, Arthur Burley, and Dave Larson, and sisters-in-law, Bernadine Burley, Paula Randeris and Rosanne Turk.
She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Michele (Gene) Pauley of Avoca, Mark Wise (Beth Hargens) of Shelby, Renee (Clark) Price of Shelby, Lynette (Dan) Nelsen of Walnut; her grandchildren Ashley (Preston) Krohn, Danielle (Daniel) Mikels, Nicholas (Kelsi) Adams, Kyle Bauerkemper, Gabe Pauley, Steven Wise, Amber Price, Cassie Price, Bill Price, Dustin (Lesley) Nelsen, Dakota (Felicia) Nelsen, Dane (Beth) Nelsen, Sidney Nelsen, Kyley Nelsen and 18 great grandchildren. Her sister Virgilene Koenig of Papillion, NE. Sisters-in-law: Charlotte Wise, Theota (Lonn) Nelsen, Carolyn (Dennis) Piittmann, Margie Szadis, Paula Rosenthal, and Patricia Turk, brothers-in-law, Don Parish, Gary Randeris, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
