Cristina Sotelo de Barragan was born in Santa Rita, Jalisco, Mexico, April 1, 1959, the youngest of 15 children of Bernardo and Guadalupe Rodriguez Sotelo. She was raised in Santa Rita where she received her education. She moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1975. On January 1, 1977, Cristina was united in marriage with Juan B. Barragan in Santa Rita. Their union was blessed with four children: Yobhan, Lizbeth, Juan, Jr. and Christian. They made their home in Phoenix where Cristina was a busy homemaker raising their family. On January 30, 2011, the family moved to Denison, Iowa, where she had since resided. She will be remembered by her family as an excellent mother, a good sister and friend, whose greatest passion was serving God, proclaiming his word and teaching the power of faith. She enjoyed her work at church and listening to religious music. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Cristina died Thursday morning, October 13, 2011, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 52 years, 6 months and 12 days. Cristina was preceded in death by her parents, six infant siblings, and a grandson, Geovanny Barragan. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her husband, Juan B. Barragan, Sr. of Denison, Iowa, four children: Yobhan Barragan and wife, Laura Torres of Arcadia, Wisconsin, Lizbeth Barragan and husband, Israel Rodriguez of Denison, Iowa, Juan B. Barragan of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Christian Barragan of Denison, Iowa; four grandchildren; eight siblings: Nicolasa Sotelo, Margarita Sotelo, Salvador Sotelo, Jesus Sotelo, Miguel Sotelo, Mercedes Sotelo and Consuelo Sotelo all of Mexico, and Maria C. Sotelo de Segura and husband, Pablo Segura of Denison, Iowa, other relatives and friends.
