Gottsch was born at Westside, Iowa, December 31, 1934, the son of Gilmore Otto and Hilda Schneller Gottsch.  He was raised on the farm at Westside and received his education there, graduating from Westside High School.  Following high school Dale served in the United States Army for two years and after receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to Westside.  Dale farmed all of his life, first with his father and then on his own, retiring in 2009.  In his spare time he enjoyed drawing and gardening.  He was a member of the United Church in Westside.  Dale died Sunday morning, April 6, 2014, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa.  At the time of his death he had been blessed with 79 years, 3 months and 5 days. Those preceding Dale in death include his parents, Gilmore and Hilda Gottsch and one brother, Delbert Gottsch. Those remaining to cherish his memory include two brothers: Don Gottsch of Westside, Iowa and Dean and wife Linda Gottsch of O’Fallon, Missouri; 13 nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.   Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 10, 2104, at United Church, Westside, Iowa, with the Rev. Richard Francis officiating. Music for the service included Sue Rosener singing “How Great Thou Art”, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace” with Janine Kock serving as accompanist. Pallbearers were Derwin Gottsch, Devin Gottsch, Darlo Gottsch, Aaron Gottsch, Brian Dillard and Brian Grindstaff. Interment was at the Westside Cemetery, Westside, Iowa. Following the burial all were invited to return to the church to join the family for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the United Church Women.
