Dale Robert Ploen, son of William and Minnie (Kay) Ploen, was born on May 14, 1921 in Shelby, Iowa. He attended grade school in Shelby and graduated from Shelby High School.
On September 4, 1947, Dale was united in marriage to Mary Siebels at the Minden Congregational Church in Minden, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Karen, Patricia and Robert. After their marriage, Dale and Mary farmed near Walnut, Iowa for over forty-five years until his retirement in 1988. Dale was a member of the Masons for over 50 years having joined in 1957. Dale and Mary were active in the Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut. Dale served on the Walnut School Board and also served for eighteen years on the board of Peace Haven Retirement Home in Walnut.
In 1993, they then made their home in Belgrade, Montana until 2007 when they returned to Iowa and made their home in Pella and Knoxville. Dale died on August 20, 2015 at the Pella Hospice Comfort House in Pella, Iowa having attained the age of ninety-four years, three months and six days. In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Kyah and his brother, Lester Ploen.
He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-eight years, Mary Ploen of Knoxville, Iowa; his children: Karen Sue and her husband Ed Soens of San Diego, California; Patricia Kay Ebert of Lincoln, Nebraska and Robert Dale Ploen of Three Forks, Montana; six grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; his sister Lois Kahler and brother Harley Ploen both of Avoca, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
