Dalmer H. Lorenzen, the son of George and Hulda Baasch Lorenzen, was born on October 11, 1912 in Shelby County, Iowa and was one of three children in the family. Dalmer farmed with his father until 1936.
On his twenty-fourth birthday, he married Mabel E. Johnson in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and to this union one daughter, Shari, was born. Dalmer and Mabel farmed in the Avoca area. They were especially proud of their herd of Black Angus cattle. During the 1950's and 60's, their hobby of raising game birds grew into Dal-Mae-Sha Game Farm, where they raised partridges, pheasants and quail for sale, gifts and release into the wild.
Dalmer was chairman of Avoca�s Centennial Board in 1969, and was also named the community's Man of the Year. After retiring from farming in 1979, he went to work for Knutson Funeral Home in Avoca retiring in 1995. Dalmer was active in Rotary and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Dalmer died on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa having attained the age of ninety-five years, three months and twenty-two days. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mabel, a brother, Gerald and a sister, Ethelyn.
Survivors include his daughter Shari and her husband Jerry Skoglund of Waukee, Iowa; two grandchildren: Tammy and her husband Craig Phipps and Mike Skoglund and his wife Renee all of St. Paul, Minnesota; three great grandchildren: Adam, Andrea and Rob; besides nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa with Wayne Paulsen as the clergy. Serving as casket bearers were Bob Jensen, Tammy Phipps, Gary Lorenzen, Mike Skoglund, Craig Phipps and Renee Skoglund. Interment was held in the Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa.
