Dan C. Pfannebecker

Danny Clifford Pfannebecker was born to Ralph Eugene and Fanchen Jean Minnick Pfannebecker in Centerville, Iowa on May 17, 1954. He grew up on a farm west of Walnut City, Iowa and later Southwest of Udell, Iowa and was baptized at the Unionville Baptist Church in Unionville, Iowa on March 1, 1964. Dan attended Moulton-Udell High School graduating with the class of 1972. While in school, he worked several odd jobs from mowing lawns, working in the local bakery and painting area farmer’s barns.After high school, Dan worked at Jim Irelan’s Menswear clothing store from 1972 to 1973. He then worked part-time at Trotter’s Menswear clothing store and also at the Duley Funeral Home and Ambulance Service in Centerville from 1973 to 1975 all while attending Indian Hills Community College where he received his Associates of Arts Degree. Dan continued his education at the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in Louisville, Kentucky graduating in August of 1976 where he worked at the Hardy Funeral Home. He received his Iowa Funeral Director’s License on October 6, 1977 while working for the Duley Funeral Home in Centerville and Moulton, Iowa from August of 1976 to May 1, 1978.On June 1, 1978, Dan moved to Denison, Iowa where he purchased the Maxwell Funeral Home and established Pfannebecker Funeral Home. Dan became very active in Denison and throughout Crawford county where he was a member of the Denison Community Chest Board for three years; Denison Chamber of Commerce where he served as a board member for three years. He also helped establish the local chapter of Compassionate Friends and was awarded the “Boss of the Year” award in 1994. Dan was also a member of the Denison Rotary Club for several years serving as president in 1993-1994 and was awarded the Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship in 1994.Funeral Service was always Dan’s passion and he was dedicated to his 24/7 profession serving families in their hour of need. He was a founding member of the Crawford County Area Hospice serving from 1990 to 1999 and again in 2002 when he served as president. He was a member of the Iowa Funeral Director’s Association from 1978 to the present and served as a member of the Board of Governors. He also was a member of the National Funeral Director’s Association from 1978 to the present. Dan was also a longtime member of the board of directors of the Consumer’s Credit Union in Denison and served on the Donna Reed Foundation Board.Dan was confirmed by the Rev. Andrew Hoffmann at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on April 15, 1995. Although he said it was a long journey, he found his home after forty years in the catholic faith. He felt this decision was one of the best and most important decisions he made in his life and hoped that everyone’s faith journey makes them as happy as he was making his. He served on the finance council at St. Rose from 1995-2001 and as a Eucharistic Minister since March 27, 1996 to the present and also on the Environment Committee from 1995 to the present.Dan loved spending time with his nieces and nephews and was always involved in their lives. He also enjoyed music, reading and traveling when time allowed. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball fan.Dan died on February 8, 2017 at Creighton University Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of sixty-two years, 8 months and 21 days. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Denis and Dwight Pfannebecker. He is survived by his brother Derrill (Marjorie) Pfannebecker of Centerville, Iowa; sister-in-law, Reta (Don) Havard of Moravia, Iowa; nieces: Kathy (John) Bailey of Centerville; Lisa Nolan of Moravia; Tanya (Kenney) Davis of New Sharon, Iowa; Stacy (Jason) Winans of North Richland Hills, Texas; Jana (Justin) VanMaaren of Pella, Iowa; Shane Morgan of Grimes, Iowa and Kaysie Cardani Pfannebecker of Des Moines, Iowa; nephews: Jeremy, Brian and Joshua all of Centerville; other relatives and many friends.Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Denison, Iowa, with Father Paul Kelly as Celebrant. Others participating in the mass were Deacon Rob Claypool; Servers: Ally Resiz and Claire Miller; Lector: Judy Brodersen; Gift Bearers: Family Members; and Eucharistic Ministers: Marilyn Pollak and Ann Klein. Music for the mass was provided by Christian Matthews singing “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” and “Ave Maria”, and St. Rose of Lima Adult Choir singing “Jesus Remember Me” and “Be Not Afraid” directed by Pat Menegay with Judy Thams serving as accompanist. Pallbearers were Nathan Mahrt, Brad Nelson, Doug Soseman, Jim Kregness, Jerry Byran, and Scott Ferguson. Following the services, everyone was invited to the Parish Center for fellowship and luncheon provided by Hy-Vee Catering. Private family interment was held on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com , Denison, Iowa, accompanied by the Pauley Jones Funeral Home, Harlan, Iowa, were in charge of arrangements. A visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Denison, Iowa with a Parish Vigil Service led by Father Paul Kelly at 7:30 p.m.
