Daniel Altamirano was born in Juarez, Mexico, January 7, 1965, the son of Ignacio and Francisca Lujan Altamirano. He was baptized in San Miguel, Juarez and resided in Mexico until age 2 when the family moved to El Paso, Texas. When he was 9 years old they moved to Merced, California, residing there until moving to Phoenix, Arizona when he was age 12. He received his elementary education in El Paso and Merced and his high school education in Le Grand, California and Phoenix, Arizona. Following his education Daniel was employed in construction in the Phoenix area until moving to Denison in 1996. On December 24, 1996, Daniel was united in marriage with Lucy Rumble at Harlan, Iowa. They made their home in Denison and their union was blessed with one son, Adrian. In his spare time Daniel enjoyed taking the kids to the park, his Jimmy vehicle, working on cars, attending car shows, swimming, soccer, baseball, his pit bulls and socializing with friends and family, always trying to make them laugh. Although becoming disabled at age 28, Daniel will be remembered by family and friends for his smile and upbeat attitude and demeanor. Daniel was a member of St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, a 4th Degree member of the Denison Knights Of Columbus Council #2074, and was involved in working with the Boy Scouts organization. Due to failing health Daniel moved to the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa, in November of 2007 and it was there his death occurred Monday, August 10, 2009. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 44 years, 7 months and 3 days. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Lucy Altamirano of Denison, his father, Ignacio Altamirano of Avondale, Arizona, his mother, Francisca Altamirano of Glendale, Arizona, four children, Michael Williams of Jonesboro, Tennessee, Consuelo Altamirano and special friend, Michael Raizola of Avondale, Arizona, Victoria Altamirano of Tempe, Arizona, Adrian Altamirano of Denison, Iowa, one step-son, Dustin Barone and friend Marilyn Simpson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, one grandson, Michael Raizola II of Avondale, Arizona, two sisters, Norma and husband, Tony Hernandez of Avondale, Arizona, and Frances Altamirano of Phoenix, Arizona, sister-in-law, Judy Rumble of Denison, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 15, 2009, at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa, with Father Paul Kelly as Celebrant. Those participating in the Mass included Christian Symbol Placers and Gift Bearers, Consuelo Altamirano, Michael William, Dustin Barone, Marilyn Simpson, Victoria Altamirano and Adrian Altamirano; Lector, Sr. Lucille Hayes R.S. C. J.; Servers, Sam Kanne, Austin and Taylor Thul and Eucharistic Ministers, Carolyn Von Tersch, Roger Borecky and Dan Pfannebecker. Music for the Mass was provided by St. Rose Of Lima Adult Choir singing "Hosea", "Lord When We Come To The Seashore", "Pan de Vida" and "When We Are Living" with Judy Thams serving as accompianist. Interment was at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Cemetery, Denison, Iowa. Following the interment the family invited all in attendance to join them at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison for a time of fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the St. Rose Of Lima Ladies Guild. Friday prayer services, including a Legion of Mary Rosary at 4:30 p.m., Parish Vigil Service at 6:00 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m., were held at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church in Denison.
