Daniel D. Greer
June 14, 1958 — April 24, 2008
Daniel Dale Greer, son of Eugene Charles and Diana Leona (Nelson) Greer, was born on June 14, 1958, in Harlan, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Harlan. Dan attended school at Harlan Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1976. After high school, Dan received his associates degree in electronics from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa and then his bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
On August 12, 1984, Dan was united in marriage to Marian Gaul at the United Methodist Church in Harlan, Iowa. Two children were born to this union: Ben and Lindsey. Dan spent his working life in the computer technology industry for various companies throughout the Omaha and Southwest Iowa area. His passion for computers could be seen throughout his house. There was a computer networked in almost every room where he could track his ebay sales and purchases and enjoyed hours of gaming with his kids. Dan also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and family bicycle trips on bike trails around southwest Iowa as well as playing tennis, golf and racquet ball.
In 1998, Dan and Marian became active in the First Assembly of God Church in Harlan. It was here that Dan pursued another of his passions, music, where he played the bass guitar with the North Gate Praise Team.
Daniel died at his home outside of Harlan on April 24, 2008, having attained the age of forty-nine years, ten months and ten days. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Marian Greer of Harlan; his children: Ben and Lindsey Greer of Harlan; his sister Suzanne and her husband Mike Rasmussen of Kirkman, Iowa; his brothers: Gary Greer and his wife Susan of Harlan and David Greer and his wife Jodi of Ft. Collins, Colorado; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the First Assembly of God Church in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Al Hazelton officiating the 11:00 AM service. Casket bearers were Craig Bieker, Matthew Glenn, Aaron Gaul, Kelly Lefeber, Scott Rasmussen, and Kelly Greer. Interment was held at the Harlan Cemetery.
