Darlene Marie Waples, the daughter of Elmer and Vera Vredenburgh Blunt, was born on February 25, 1936 in Little Sioux, Iowa. She attended school in Missouri Valley, Iowa and graduated with the class of 1954.
Darlene was united in marriage to Virgil Waples on October 16, 1954 in Missouri Valley, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born: Ann Marie and Penny. The family moved to Avoca in 1963 and after making their home in Avoca, Darlene became active in square dancing and enjoyed dancing with the Walnut Square Dancers. She had a very good sense of humor and loved a good joke. When her mother became ill she became her top priority and Darlene became her caretaker. She enjoyed gardening and canned many of her vegetables. She enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren and loved being together at Christmas. Two of her favorite pastimes were crocheting and reading. She was a member of LVFWA Wesley R. Miller 8998.
Darlene died on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center in Avoca, Iowa having attained the age of seventy-two years, five months and fifteen days. She is preceded in death by her husband Virgil, who died in 1995; her grandson, Shawn Stalder and three brothers: Donald, Harlan and Marvin.
Survivors include her daughters: Ann Marie and her husband Larry Stalder of Red Oak, Iowa; Penny and her husband Ben Meysenburg of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren: Shane and Courtney Stalder and Abby and Holly Meysenburg; one sister: Arlene and her husband Rollin Hansen of Murray, Nebraska; brother Marrion Blunt and his wife Judy of Fairbury, Nebraska and a sister-in-law "Chuckie" Blunt of Onamia, Minnesota; besides other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa. Pastor Nancy Ross-Hullinger officiated the 2:00 PM service.
