Darold Merlene Wittrup, son of Roy and Estelle (Mork) Wittrup, was born December 6, 1932, on a farm near Irwin, Iowa. He attended country school outside of Irwin and later in Irwin before finishing his schooling in Harlan where he graduated with the class of 1950. After high school, Darold began his long career with Western Engineering out of Harlan.

On December 11, 1951, Darold was united in marriage to Mary Angeline “Angie” Tiffany in Cheyenne, Wyoming. To this union two daughters were born: Sharrell and Sheila. On July 23, 1953, Darold was inducted into the United States Army where he served his country honorably until July 22, 1955.

After his discharge, Darold returned to Harlan and continued working for Western Engineering. He traveled throughout the midwest in Iowa, Nebraska and Oklahoma during his fifty-six and a half years of employment with Western. He enjoyed taking his family on the road with him when he was able. He retired as a project superintendent, but that only lasted a short period. He then went to work for Craig Stork delivering auto parts.

Darold died at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, having attained the age of eighty-one years, eleven months and twenty-eight days. In addition to his parents, Darold was preceded in death by his daughter Sheila Schmitz and his brother Donald.

He is survived by his wife Angie Wittrup of Harlan, Iowa; his daughter Sharrell and her husband Rick Chamberlain of LaVista, Nebraska; his grandchildren: Dana, Jaime and Aaron Chamberlain and Teela and her husband Zach Christensen all of Omaha, Nebraska; and Tiffany and her husband Tom Guenther of Randolph, Nebraska; four great grandchildren: Justin, Jenna, Janelle and Jarod Guenther; his sister Delpha and her husband Ed Fenlason of Montana; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
