Darren Jon Towne
January 20, 1970 — December 23, 2017
Darren Jon Towne, eldest son of Kenneth and Loraine (Hansen) Towne was born on January 20, 1970, at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa.
Darren graduated with the Avo-Ha class of 1988. He enjoyed playing football, basketball and baseball during his high school career. His senior year he was voted “class personality” by his classmates, described as sweet, funny and a friend to everyone. He was easy to smile and loved by all.
Darren enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1989. He underwent training at Fort Dix, NJ as a Security Police Specialist. In 1995-96 he trained at Keesler AFB, MS as a Weather Specialist, graduating at the top of his class. He then worked as a forecaster at Ellsworth AFB and later at Grand Forks AFB before retiring as a Technical Sergeant in 2005. During his 16 years in the USAF he was in three active tours; Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Operation Provide Comfort and was decorated with several medals for his service, including Small Arms Expert and Air Force Achievement Medals.
When Darren became a father, he discovered true love. He was a gentle, kind dad who loved his children, Patrick and Lauren, wholly and infinitely as young adults, Darren took great joy in his relationships with his children, celebrating their accomplishments and supporting their endeavors. The three of them had a special bond and they always knew they were loved.
The Iowa Hawkeyes and NY Yankees were Darrenʼs favorite teams. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching his teams play. If he wasnʼt spending time with family or watching sports, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of fishing, playing catch with a baseball or football, listening to music and watching movies. Darren was an animal lover as well, and enjoyed his morning coffee and an evening beer, especially with family and good friends, and always with a smile.
Darren passed away on December 23, 2017, in Omaha, Nebraska, attaining the age of 47 years, 11 months and 3 days. He is preceded in death by his sister, Darci Towne, and brother in law, Casey Turk.
Darren is survived by his loving parents Kenneth and Loraine Towne of Hancock, Iowa; children Patrick Towne of Chicago, IL; Lauren Towne of Milwaukee, WI; siblings Andrea Turk of San Antonio, TX; Amy Towne of
Fort Collins, CO; Dale (Brenda) Towne of Neola, IA; 2 nieces and 5 nephews.
