Daryl Dean Paulsen, or "Chris" was born on April 5, 1932 on a farm north of Avoca, Iowa to LeRoy and Emma (Jacobsen) Paulsen. He was one of eight children in the family. He graduated from Avoca High School. He entered into the United States Army and served in the Korean war until his honorable discharge on July 10, 1954.
Chris was united in marriage to Janice Gumbert on June 2, 1956 in Walnut, Iowa. They made their home in Avoca. Three sons were born to this union: Jeff, Mark and Bruce.
Chris worked many different types of jobs including working as a mechanic at John Deere in Avoca as well as working at Iowa Power for 25 years on the line crew and eventually the gas crew. He retired shortly after his wife Janice�s death in 1992 and in 2001 he moved into town in Avoca.
Chris enjoyed fishing, golfing and attending his grandchildren�s school activities. He also enjoyed a recent trip to Vegas with his children.
Chris died at his home in Avoca on Saturday, December 24, 2011 having attained the age of seventy-nine years, eight months and nineteen days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Janice.
He is survived by his sons: Jeff Paulsen and his wife Lynn of Avoca, Iowa, Mark Paulsen and his wife Nyla of Avoca, and Bruce Paulsen of Silver City, Iowa; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his siblings; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Pastor Nancy Ross-Hullinger officiated the 1:00 pm Graveside Service at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa on Wednesday, December 28, 2011. Honorary pallbearers were Danielle Paulsen, Brooke Paulsen, Paige Paulsen and Yail Paulsen.
