When he was 3 years old the family moved to Templeton, Iowa, residing there until moving to the farm at Vail when he was 8. He received his early education at St. Ann School in Vail before graduating from Manning High School with class of 1953. During his high school years he was employed at the Pepsi Plant in Carroll and later did general trucking for Elmer Rensey. On May 3, 1955, Dave was united in marriage with Marilyn Jane Ludwig at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda, Iowa. They made their home on the J. J. Walsh farm until moving to their present farm in 1959 where they raised their nine children: Randy, Denise, Sue, Dean, Gary, Cindy, Brian, Nancy and Rob. Maintaining an active interest in farming all of his life, Dave semi-retired in 1995 and helped Randy Klink as a farmhand when his health permitted. In his leisure time he enjoyed bowling in leagues, playing cards, fishing and most importantly, he cherished the countless hours he spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail. For the past several years Dave had been lovingly cared for by his wife Marilyn at their home in rural Vail where his death occurred Thursday evening, August 27, 2015. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 80 years, 3 months and 22 days. Greeting Gramps at Heaven’s door are his beautiful granddaughter Heather Kloewer, his parents, Frank and Margaret Muhlbauer and brother Paul Muhlbauer. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife Marilyn Muhlbauer of Vail, Iowa; 9 children: Randy (Kim) Muhlbauer of Vail, Iowa, Denise (Denny) Kloewer of Irwin, Iowa, Sue (Doug) Kuhl and Dean (Dawn) Muhlbauer of Vail, Iowa, Gary (Jean) Muhlbauer of Defiance, Iowa, Cindy (Richard) Huisinga of Surprise, Arizona, Brian (Debbie) Muhlbauer of Denison, Iowa, Nancy (Chad) Reynolds and Rob (Shelly) Muhlbauer of Vail, Iowa; 27 grandchildren: Jeromy Kloewer, Josh Muhlbauer, Melissa Kuhl, Kasie Muhlbauer, Craig Muhlbauer, Justin Muhlbauer, Megan Muhlbauer, Nathan Reynolds, Keri Ahrenholtz, Jessica Bilbo, Katie Staples, Jenny Kuhl, Courtney Muhlbauer, Rachelle Muhlbauer, Jason Muhlbauer, Josh Thompsen, Dusty Muhlbauer, Allison Muhlbauer, Mike Muhlbauer, Natalie Reynolds, Channing Reynolds, Amber Hinners, Ashly Hinners, Alex Ahart, Sarah Ahart, Derek Huisinga and Patricia Huisinga; and 28 great grandchildren: Conner, Marshall, Dakota, Ryan, Ryley, Desiree, Jayden, Madison, Haley, Skylyn, Emma, Mya, Jackson, Lily, Raven, Derek, Damon, Dillion, Wyatt, McKenna, Riley, Brooklyn, Brisa, Tristan, Sydney, Quinten, Kaden and Phoenix; 2 sisters: Colette Willenborg of Carroll, Iowa and Connie Faber of Fort Dodge, Iowa; 3 brothers: Allen Muhlbauer of Kingston, Tennessee, Lyle (Linda) Muhlbauer of Holt, Missouri, and Stephen (Nancy) Muhlbauer of Manning, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at St. Ann Catholic Church, Vail, Iowa, with Father Paul Kelly as Celebrant. Others participating in the mass included Servers: Katelyn and Mitchel Schulte; Lector: Cecelia Thelen; Gift Bearers: Tristan and Sydney Hinners; and Eucharistic Ministers: Marian Fitzsimmons and Mark and Betty Schwery. Music for the mass was provided by soloist Taylor Borkowski singing “On Eagle’s Wings” and “How Great Thou Art” and St. Ann Choir singing “Here I Am Lord” and “Be Not Afraid” with Irene Fielmeier serving as organist. Serving as Pallbearers were Jeromy Kloewer, Josh Muhlbauer, Melissa Kuhl, Kasie Muhlbauer, Craig Muhlbauer, Justin Muhlbauer, Megan Muhlbauer and Natalie Reynolds. Honorary Pallbearers included: , Keri Ahrenholtz, Jessica Bilbo, Katie Staples, Jenny Kuhl, Courtney Muhlbauer, Rachelle Muhlbauer, Jason Muhlbauer, Josh Thompsen, Dusty Muhlbauer, Allison Muhlbauer, Mike Muhlbauer, Nathan Reynolds, Channing Reynolds, Amber Hinners, Ashly Hinners, Alex Ahart, Sarah Ahart, Derek Huisinga, Patricia Huisinga and in memoriam, Heather Kloewer. Interment was at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery, Vail, Iowa. Following the interment the family invited everyone to join them at the Vail Community Building for fellowship and a meal catered by Lidderdale Country Store. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com , Denison, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements. Friends called from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 31, 2015, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail where a Parish Vigil service was held at 6:30 p.m.
