David Mutum

David Henry Mutum was born on February 7, 1931 to Joe and Mable (Beddow) Mutum in rural Walnut, Iowa, where he was raised and attended school in Walnut.



He entered into the United States Army on February 25, 1952 and served in the Medical Corp during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on February 24, 1954.



After his return from the military, he took over the family farming operation. He was united in marriage to Beatrice Dinovo in July of 1952 and had one daughter, Dawn.



David and Bea ran the bait shop/convenience store at Prairie Rose State Park for several years before buying and operating the Elk Horn Bakery from 1985 to 2002, moving to Elk Horn in 1998.



He became a resident of Salem Lutheran Nursing Home in February of this year. This is where he died on Monday, March 9, 2015 at the age of eighty-four years, one month, and two days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bea in 1999, grandson Daniel Winder, and brother-in-law John Dinovo.



He is survived by his daughter Dawn and her husband Mike Winder of Gilman City, Missouri; grandsons John Winder of Gower, Missouri and David Winder of Rawlins, Wyoming; granddaughter Temara Sena of Windsor, Colorado; nine great-grandchildren; sister Janis and her husband James Wicker of Plano, Iowa; other family members and friends.
