David Alfred Walter, “Dave”, was born on December 15, 1943, in Carroll, Iowa, to Alfred and Icelene (Elwell) Walter. He was baptized and confirmed at the First United Methodist Church in Manilla, Iowa, and attended Manilla Public School where he graduated with the Class of 1961. He spent a year at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.
On September 3, 1965, he was united in marriage to Ruth Warner at the First United Methodist Church in Omaha, Nebraska. He became the father of three children: Rick, Sandra and Julie.
Dave worked as a long time businessman in Harlan, starting out at Variety Distributors and then the Sears Catalog Store. Later he worked for E.M. Christensen Auto Company and Olesen Motor Center.
He was a past member of the First United Methodist Churches in Manilla and Harlan, and currently a member of the St. Andrews Methodist Church in Omaha. David was also active in the Parian Masonic Lodge, Harlan “T” Patrol and the Abu Bekr Shrine.
Dave was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan, an avid reader, and enjoyed going out to eat, seeing movies, and going to concerts. He also enjoyed traveling and had gone on two cruises with his wife. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed attending his grandkids’ sports activities.
Dave died on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, attaining the age of seventy-one years, eleven months and six days. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Ruth Walter of Omaha, Nebraska; son Rick Walter and his wife Stacey of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; daughters Sandra and her husband David Dotzler of Bennington, Nebraska and Julie and her husband David Kijowski of Cumming, Georgia; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister Ilene and her husband Dennis Jacoby of Denison, Iowa; other family members and many friends.
