Delores Hollander

Delores Edith Helms Hollander was born in Dawson, Iowa, July 21, 1933, the daughter of William Edwin and Laura Amelia Woolson Helms. She grew up in Perry, Iowa, where she married Frank Lee Potter and had two children, Barbara and David. After their marriage ended she met and married LeRoy Hollander in Denison, Iowa, October 31, 1954. They made their home in Denison and were blessed with four daughters: Cheryl, Cindy, Carla and Carmen. In 1966, she met Dale Bannister and their relationship continued until his death, February 20, 2007. Following his death she moved to Forest City, Iowa, where she had since resided. While living in Denison she worked in several places and retired after 15 years at the Denison Care Center. Delores enjoyed spending time with family and friends and cooking her favorite foods. She loved to bake, make homemade noodles and her special fried chicken, gardening, sewing and going to the lake. She also enjoyed the pleasure of going to the casino. Delores died early Monday, May 16, 2011, at the Hospice of North Iowa in care patient unit in Mason City, Iowa, after a long battle of cancer. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 77 years, 9 months and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and one brother. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her loving companion, Dutchess her dog, six children: Barbara and husband, Steve Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, David Potter and wife, Betty of Stevensville, Montana, Cheryl Hansen of Forest City, Iowa, Cindy and husband, Todd Katzenberger of New Ulm, Minnesota, Carla Bigley of Fremont, Nebraska, and Carmen Hollander of Forest City, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Espeseth of Wisconsin, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2011, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Alberta Ervin officiating. Music for the service included recorded selections of “Precious Memories” and “Amazing Grace”. Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Tom Bannister, John Hein, Steve Anderson and Todd Katzenberger. Pallbearers included Terry Pullen, Dave Pullen, Jaun Paul Bannister, Josh Bannister, Bernie Friedrichsen and Randy Bannister. Interment was at Oakland Cemetery in Denison. Following the interment the family invited everyone to join them at the Denison Community Room for refreshments and fellowship.
