Miss Delores Lavonne Wangler
March 1, 1942 — October 4, 2024
Delores LaVonne Wangler, daughter of James E. Wangler and Florence Lena (Schultz) Wangler was born March 1, 1942, at her farm home near Odebolt, Iowa. She attended Kiron Public School through 8th grade and then attended Denison Community School for her high school years graduating with the class of 1960. Following graduation she attended Commercial Extension in Omaha. On November 1, 1961, she began her 51-year banking career, retiring on October 31, 2012. All of these years her main office was in Kiron.
She also served in community activities. When a new post office was needed, she was one of four individuals who formed a corporation and built a new one for Kiron. She served as a secretary on the Kelm Apartments Board of Directors for 33 years.
She was very active and loved Bethel Lutheran Church serving as treasurer for 50 years. She was also the office secretary for most of these same years. She was a Sunday School teacher, Luther League counselor and sang in small groups and choir during her life. She was Secretary-Treasurer of the Bethel Cemetery Association for close to 30 years.
She always loved small town living and said many times, “I am just a tick in the mud.” She didn’t like a lot of change.
She loved her family and friends dearly and tried to help whenever she could. She also enjoyed her retirement. She could do what she wanted to and when she wanted (most of the time).
Preceding her in death are her parents James and Florence Wangler, brother- Alan, sister – Mavis Johnston, and her brother-in-law Richard Johnston.
Survivors include her 2 nephews, Mark & Matt Johnston, both of Kiron along with other relatives and special friends – Marty & Peggy
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 10:30 AM from Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron, IA with Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 9:00 AM to the funeral hour of 10:30 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron, IA.
