Denise was born October 16th, 1968 to David and Charlotte (Saunders) Boeck of rural Denison, Iowa. At age four, the family moved to Manilla, where she attended Manilla Community School. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church and was confirmed there in 1985. She graduated from Irwin-Kirkman Manilla High School in 1988. She graduated from Iowa Western Community College with a degree in early Childhood Development.
In August of 1992, Denise married the love of her life, Kenneth Hollow. They were blessed with one child, a daughter, Emily Catherine, in 2000. For many years, Denise worked at home, fulfilling her passion of running an in-home daycare for many families. She loved being a stay-at-home mom and housewife. In more recent years, she worked at Elm Crest Nursing Home and at Harlan Community schools, assisting in the kitchens.
Denise’s favorite pastime was watching racing. Almost every Saturday night she could be found at the Shelby County Speedway Track, cheering on the racers and catching up with her friends. She also loved gardening and her cherished pets.
In 2016, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, had surgery and completed her medication for this, and was believed to have been cured. Unfortunately, in October of 2023 she was told her cancer had returned and had spread throughout her body. Denise passed away due to complications from her cancer on December 19th, 2023.
She is survived by her husband, Kenny Holloway of Harlan, IA; daughter, Emily Holloway of Harlan, IA; mother, Charlotte Boeck of Lanesboro; IA; sisters, Carissa (Pete) Rosonke of Wake Forest, NC, Linette (Jason) DeSart of Lanesboro, IA; brother-in-law, Steven (Linda) Holloway of Coeur d’ Alene, ID; sister-in-law, Lisa (Troy) Sheppard of Atwood, KS; 4 nieces and 4 nephews; other family members and many friends.
