Dennis Kenkel, son of Alfred and Leonetta (Rosman) Kenkel was born December, 30, 1939 in Earling, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm east of Earling. Denny graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School with the class of 1958. Following graduation, he worked in Omaha, Nebraska at Western Electric for two years.

On April 8, 1961, Denny was united in marriage to Marie Erlbacher at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling. To this union, three children were born: Sue, Bruce and Brian. They made their home in Earling while Denny started a business with his father, “Kenkel Fertilizer”. A few years later, Denny started his own business, “The Earling Feed” and “Hog Market”. They purchased a farm east of Earling where they built their current home. Later, they also purchased and farmed the adjoining land that is still part of their farm operation today.

Denny was involved in the St. Joseph’s Parish, volunteered as Earling Fire Chief and Earling Business Men’s Club. He loved to go fishing in Canada with Marie and their friends; making trips annually for many years and wintering in San Diego, California. He enjoyed spending weekends at the race track, golfing, traveling but most of all, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Denny passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 surrounded by his loving family in Elkhorn, Nebraska, attaining the age of seventy-eight years, five months and twenty-seven days. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Don Kenkel, sister Peg Leinen and daughter-in-law Karen Leuck-Kenkel.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Marie Kenkel of Earling, Iowa; daughter Sue and her husband Jake Alexander of Elkhorn, Nebraska; sons Bruce Kenkel and his wife Jennifer Mulholland of Elkhorn, Nebraska: Brian Kenkel and his wife Michaela of Elkhorn, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers Jack Kenkel and his wife Gloria of Earling, Iowa; Dean Kenkel and his wife Pam of Underwood, Iowa; brother-in-law Ed Leinen of Indianola, Iowa; many other relatives and friends.
