Dennis W. Larson
September 23, 1952 — January 21, 2015
Dennis William Larson was born on September 23, 1952 to Wayne and Judith (Sorensen) Larson in Logan, Iowa. He attended elementary school in Logan and graduated from Missouri Valley High School with the Class of 1970 excelling in shop and wrestling.
On July 2, 1994, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Heese in Beebeetown, Iowa at the Chapel on Good Enough Road. They raised four children: Eric, Bridgett, Stevi, and Tim.
He worked, as his father did, as a paint and general contractor. He especially liked traveling to work in different parts of the country, meeting new people and experiencing the local cultures and traditions from 1998 to 2013. He owned and operated Square Deal Contacting subcontracting new motel and restorations.
Dennis was an Iowa Hawkeye football fan. E was an excellent woodworker and liked to make the best use of any materials including leftovers from remodeling jobs or from his own restorations.
He loved wood, trees and nature and loved to spend as much time as possible outdoors camping or hiking. His spiritual based leaned toward the Native American tradition, learned from his grandfather, and he held a deep and abiding respect for their dedication to the earth, the interconnectedness of all beings, and their commitment to all their relations.
Dennis loved to cook and make excellent pies. He perfected his pie crust and planted a cherry tree in the hopes of making a fresh cherry pie.
In all respects Dennis was a noble human being who loved his work, his family and nature, and he was an excellent and loving father to his son and special step children. He was a loving and caring husband.
Dennis died on Tuesday, January 21, 2015 at his home in Earling, Iowa, having attained the age of sixty-two years, three months, and twenty-nine days. He was preceded in death by his father and sister Margaret Christine Brummer.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen Larson of Earling, Iowa; children: Eric Larson and his wife Jennifer of Modale, Iowa, step-children Bridgett Gaul and her husband Tom Gibson of Omaha, Nebraska, Stevi Gaul and her fiancé Jeff Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska, and Tim Gaul of Earling, Iowa; two grandchildren: Sadie and Wayne, and three step-granchildren Ben, Wiley, and Ellie; mother Judith Larson of Missouri Valley, Iowa; sister Becky Walters of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brothers: David Larson and his wife Rita of Little Sioux, Iowa, Jeff Larson of LeMars, Iowa, and Alan Larson of Missouri Valley, Iowa; nieces and nephews and many friends at home and elsewhere as he traveled for his work.
