Dixie Dell Donaldson McKeighan Goodner, daughter of Pluma Pauline Menefee and Tip Franklin Donaldson was born on September 4, 1926 in Omaha, Nebraska. She lived in Avoca, Iowa until 1935 and then moved to Tennant. She graduated from Tennant High School in May 1943.

In 1944, Dixie moved to Omaha and worked as a payroll clerk for Merchants Motor Freight Lines until her marriage on April 5, 1947 to William Rex McKeighan. (William) Rex and Dixie moved with their family to Harlan in 1956. (William) Rex died in a car accident on July, 1970.

Dixie was married to Rex William Goodner on September 9, 1977 who died on April 30, 1990.

Dixie worked for Farmers Mutual Cooperative Telephone Company from November of 1968 until February of 1999. Family and friends have been the most important part of Dixie’s life. She enjoyed her garden, cooking and making baked goods for family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Dixie is preceded in death by her husbands, William Rex McKeighan and Rex William Goodner; her son, Timothy McKeighan; her sister, Mary Lou Donaldson and her brother, Tip Donaldson.

She is survived by her children: Brenda (McKeighan) and her husband Stanley Peterson of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin; Terry McKeighan and his wife, Nancy (Scott) of Tualatin, Oregon; Laurie (Goodner) and her husband Walt Staiert of Elk Horn, Iowa; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many good friends.

Rev. John Frost celebrated the 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. Kate Kohorst accompanied vocalist John Rosman. Serving as casket bearers were Bruce Guyett, Roger Andersen, Jerry lambert, Paul Kruse, Doug Allen, and Paul Nelson. Interment was held at the Harlan Cemetery.
