Dolores Marie Wilkinson was born on June 29, 1927, the youngest of four children born to John and Gertrude (Muell) Blum in Panama, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm south of Panama and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Panama. Her oldest brother, Robert, gave her the nickname of “Tootie”, it stuck, and her friends and family members called her Tootie throughout her life.
On May 15, 1952, she was united in marriage to William Wilkinson, Jr. at St. Mary’s in Panama. Bill was in the United States Air Force and stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska, where they made their home. They became parents to two children: Richard and Kathleen. Bill was transferred to Spain in May of 1957. The family went and lived in several different cities while in Spain, returning to the United States in August of 1961. The family lived in Lincoln and Bellevue, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Dolores, or “Dee” as her friends and co-workers called her, worked at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, retiring in 1972. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed the annual family Memorial Day gatherings.
Dolores became a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Home in October of 2012, which is where she died on Sunday, December 6, 2015 having attained the age of eighty-eight years, five months, and seven days. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Gertrude, husband William, daughter Kathleen McDaniel, brothers Donald and Robert Blum, sister Carmen Ratigan, son-in-law Thomas McDaniel, and grandson Mark McDaniel.
She is survived by her son Richard Wilkinson and his wife Lynda of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
