Donald Kaufman Profile Photo
Donald Henry Kaufman was born the second child of Tony and Rosalia (Fuhs) Kaufman, on November 5th, 1940, near Westphalia Iowa. He grew up on the family farm, and was a “born farmer.” Don attended Westphalia Catholic School (St. Boniface) for 12 grades.
His grandfather, Jacob Fuhs, gave Don the opportunity to farm 120 acres near Portsmouth, Iowa, and he said “Yes” - even though it meant he would have to move 15-20 miles away from the home where he grew up.
Don continued to farm all his life, and even married a farm-loving girl, Ramona Schmid, from Earling, on September 26, 1964. Their family was blessed with three children: Duane, Deanna and Joe.
Donald was a member of the Portsmouth choir for many years. He loved to polka dance, and drove all over Iowa and to surrounding states to attend dances. He made a lot of friends while attending these dances.
Donald is survived by his family: Ramona Kaufman of West Des Moines, Duane (Wendy) Kaufman of Hollandale, WI, Deanna (Michael) Colson of Des Moines, and Joe (Katy) Kaufman of Monona, WI, and his sister Marj (Leo) Kramer of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Monica and brother Marcus. Donald has 5 grandchildren: Pastor Eric Stacy, Susan Stacy, Sean Stacy, Vivian Kaufman, and Thea Kaufman.
