DONALD DEAN KUEHNHOLD
On July 2, 2008, Don Kuehnhold sustained fatal injuries when he fell from a tree while clearing storm damage. He died on July 4, 2008 at the age of 73 years young surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 1st (April Fools Day) 1935 to Adolph and Ella (Jepsen) Kuehnhold. He grew up on a farm four miles east of Charter Oak, Iowa with three brothers and one sister.
At age 18, Don joined the Iowa National Guard. In 1955 he bought a lot and built a home in Denison. He started his trash hauling business June of 1955 and also continued to work on the family farm until he was 21. He married JoAnn Kenkel on February 14th (Valentines Day) 1957.
He loved building/construction, vehicle maintenance, collecting, landscaping, gardening, traveling, reading, learning, inventing, shopping at Menards, and spending time with his wife and family.
He was the best husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa in the world.
Dons legacy is his loving wife of 51 years JoAnn; his 5 children: JoEtt (Cogdill) of Dunlap, Curtis of Texas, Vicki (Campbell) of Des Moines, Keith of Texas, and Renae (Kirkland) of Omaha; his 18 grandchildren: Shawn, Staci, Stefanie (children of JoEtt and Frank), Joshua, Brandon, Michael, Katelyn (children of Curtis and Michelle), Heather and Scott (children of Vicki and Doug), Zachary, Cory Don, Jared, Chase (children of Keith and Angela), Alex, Nathan, Emily, Ben, Sam (children of Renae and Victor); his 3 great-grandchildren: Kylee and Isabelle (children of Shawn and Amy Cogdill) and Jordyn (daughter of Staci and Travis Stempek); and his dog Smokey.
Other survivors include his brothers Vernon and Melvin of Denison and sister Betty (Fouts) of Dow City.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa, with Father Paul Kelly as Celebrant. Others participating in the Mass included; Christian Symbol Placers, JoAnn and the children; Candlelighter, Doug Campbell; Servers, Stefanie Cogdill and Emily Kirkland; Lectors, Joseph Moran, Leona Moran and Judy Kenkel; Eulogists, Staci Cogdill and Heather Campbell; Gift Bearers, Michael, Katelyn, Jared and Chase Kuehnhold; and Eucharistic Ministers, Frank Cogdill, Michelle Kuehnhold and Victor Kirkland. Music for the Mass was provided by St. Rose of Lima Adult Choir singing "On Eagles Wings", "Amazing Grace", "How Great Thou Art" and "America The Beautiful" with Jean Cornelius as accompanist. Pallbearers included Shawn Cogdill, Joshua Kuehnhold, Brandon Kuehnhold, Scott Campbell, Zachary Kuehnhold, Cory Don Kuehnhold, Alexander Kirkland, Nathan Kirkland, Benjamin Kirkland and Samuel Kirkland. Interment was at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison. Following the committal prayers all were invited to return to the Parish Center and join the family for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by St. Rose of Lima Ladies Guild. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements where on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, a Rosary, led by the children, was prayed at 5:00 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service, led by Father Paul Kelly, was held at 7:00 p.m.
