Donald Ambrose �Dinger� Thraen was born on March 26, 1943 to Ambrose and Ariel (Densmore) Thraen in Harlan, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael�s Catholic Church, where he remained a life-long member. Don attended St. Michael�s Catholic School and graduated from Harlan High School with the class of 1961. During his high school summers, he attended the Sioux City Barber College.
After high school, Don worked with his dad and brother until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1962, where he served his country stateside and overseas in Germany. After his honorable discharge, �Dinger� attended a computer programming school and then started at the Council Bluffs Savings Bank.
On January 31, 1970, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Spencer in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Before, teaching at the Sioux City Barber College, he worked for Alter Company in Council Bluffs. Then in 1977, they moved to Harlan where he opened his own barber shop. After that he was an Investment Broker until he retired the summer of 2010.
Music was one of Don�s greatest loves. He was in several music groups over the years including � The Collisions�, �The Last Remains�, �Friday and the Weekends�, �Leather and Lace� and �The Great Imposters�(1990-2012). In 2007, Don was inducted with �The Great Imposters� into the Iowa Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame. He was a board member of the Town and Country Credit Union in Harlan and also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3900 of Harlan.
Don died at his home on Saturday, August 10, 2013 having attained the age of seventy years, four months and fifteen days. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ronald Thraen.
He is survived by his wife of forty-three years Rosemary Thraen; son Darin (Thraen) Cingle of Omaha, NE; daughter Jodie and her husband Gary Hopp; sons Anthony Thraen of Harlan, and Andrew Thraen and his wife Sara of Harlan; grandchildren: Haleigh Wehr, Taimon Wehr, Daytona Wehr, Allan Hopp, Brett Hopp, Kyle Bainbridge, Chase Thraen, Donnie Thraen, Skye Davis and Jeremiah Davis; sister-in-law Linda Thraen of Harlan; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
Rev. John Frost celebrated the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on August 14, 2013 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa. Kathleen Kohorst was the accompanist along with Konnie Schechinger singing. Serving as Honorary casket bearers were Bob Fields, Ray Armstrong, Larry Rodriquez, Craig Nance, Duane Straight, and Jim Thraen. Serving as casket bearers were Taimon Wehr, Schott Thraen, Jacob Thraen, Cory Miller, Tim Mikels, and Russ Leslie. Interment was held at St. Boniface Cemetery.
