Donna Jean Walker, daughter of Lyle Walker and Myrtle M. Peterson was born May 11, 1944 in Harlan, Iowa. She attended country school and graduated from Harlan High School in 1962. Donna worked in several Harlan stores, her favorite being the bakery.
On November 27, 1971, Donna and Jim Burdick were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Harlan. After years of writing letters to each other they decided marriage would be wonderful! After the marriage the couple moved to Bethesda, Maryland. Since it was impossible to have children of their own, they opened a home day care center and took care of over 700 children over the years.
Both Donna and Jim were baptized into the Christian faith early in their lives. It was decided to serve the Lord in Christian service by providing "nite" time accomdations for parents of patients at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda! After many years NIH built there own nite time quarters. Donna continued with her daycare and Jim did arch drafting, house painting, and helped Donna with the daycare. In November 2013, they moved back to Harlan to retire.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle and Lyle Walker brother, Lyle Walker; niece, Amy Walker; and brother-in-law, Dave Force.
She is survived by her husband Jim Burdick of Harlan, IA; siblings, Dee (Gary) Brandt of Harlan, IA, LaVonne Force of Harlan, IA, Linda (Dennis) Hielen of Shenandoah, IA, Mary (Rodney) McCumber of Newton, IA; sister-in-law, Marcia Walker of Harlan, IA; other relatives and many friends. An 11:00 AM Funeral Service was officiated by Pastor Josh Salazar at First Baptist Church in Harlan, Iowa on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Joe Powell, Jim Powell, Gary Brandt, Gary Patrick, Rodney McCumber, and Aaron Russell served as casketbearers. A burial was held following the service at Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa.
Pauley Jones Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
