The family made their home in Westside until Donna was age 7 when they moved to a farm north of Manilla, later moving into Manilla. She received her kindergarten and first grade schooling at Westside Public Schools before moving to Manilla where she graduated high school with the class of 1950. Following high school Donna moved to Omaha to attend the Commercial Extension Business School, graduating in 1951. On May 27, 1951, Donna was united in marriage with Glenn Harvey Freese at the Presbyterian Church in Manilla, Iowa. Their union was blessed with five children: Kevin, Beth, Kary, Barbara and Kurt. They made their home in Westside before moving to the farm northeast of Vail in 1960 where they resided until moving to their present home in Vail in 1983. Donna spent her adult married life as a homemaker, lovingly caring for her family. In her leisure time Donna enjoyed reading, flower gardening, crocheting, adding to her collections of Depression glass, bells and santas, and baking rolls, breads and cakes. Her most cherished times were those spent with her family. Having been baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Manilla, Iowa, Donna was a long time active member of the United Presbyterian Church in Vail where she had served as Deacon, Elder and was a member of their Fellowship of Women. Surrounded by her loving family, Donna died Saturday morning, August 22, 2015, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 83 years, 6 months and 26 days. Donna was preceded in death by one son Kary Freese (October 31, 1988), her father Herbert Henry Bandow (January 8, 1972), her mother Hazel Ellen Bandow (September 7, 1996) and one brother Robert Bandow (January 30, 1973). Those remaining to cherish her memory include her husband: Glenn H. Freese of Vail, Iowa, four children and their spouses: Rev. Kevin (Wanda) Freese of Battle Creek, Iowa, Beth (Dean) Argotsinger of Denison, Iowa, Barbara (William) Winkelman of Johnston, Iowa, and Kurt (Rita) Freese of Ida Grove, Iowa; 13 grandchildren: Justin (Janet) Freese of Westside, Iowa, Dr Jarred (Hannah) Freese of Montrose, Colorado, Mia Freese of Sioux City, Iowa, Eric (Terri) Argotsinger of Ankeny, Iowa, Lori (Brian) Jones of Westminster, Colorado, Keri (Aric) Zimmer of Underwood, Iowa, Thomas Winkelman of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Joseph and Paige Winkelman of Johnston, Iowa, Colin Freese, Christopher Freese and Olivia Freese all of Iowa City, Iowa, and Elyssa Freese of Ida Grove, Iowa; 9 great grandchildren: Emily, Molly, Charlie and Lily Freese of Westside, Iowa, Noah, June and Caleb Freese of Montrose, Colorado, Clara Jones of Westminster, Colorado, and Nora Zimmer of Underwood, Iowa; two brothers: Thomas (Lois) Bandow of Tolleson, Arizona, and Herbert (Joleen) Bandow of Minden, Iowa; one sister: Judy Brus of Midlothian, Texas; sister-in-law: Carolyn Lee of Scottsdale, Arizona; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: David and Ryta Freese of Westside, Iowa; nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2015, at the United Presbyterian Church, Vail, Iowa, with the Rev. Kevin Freese and the Rev. Richard Francis officiating. Music for the service was provided by granddaughter Olivia Freese and grandson Thomas Winkelman singing “Jesus Loves Me” accompanied by the Rev. Kevin Freese, pianist, Sue Rosener singing “The Lord’s Prayer” and “On Eagle’s Wings” and the congregation singing “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” with Ruth Noelck serving as organist. Serving as pallbearers were Donna’s grandsons: Justin Freese, Dr. Jarred Freese, Eric Argotsinger, Thomas Winkelman, Joseph Winkelman, Colin Freese and Christopher Freese. Honorary Pallbearers included Donna’s granddaughters and great grandchildren: Mia Freese, Lori Jones, Keri Zimmer, Paige Winkelman, Olivia Freese, Elyssa Freese, Emily, Molly, Lily and Charlie Freese, Clara Jones, Nora Zimmer, Noah and June Freese, and Caleb Freese. Interment was at Wheatland Cemetery, Breda, Iowa. Following the interment all were invited to return to the church and join the family for fellowship and a meal catered by Lidderdale Country Store and served by the United Presbyterian Women.
