Donna Lou Kester was born on October 23, 1930 to Glenn and Myrna (Donnelson) Woodard in Dunlap, Iowa. She grew up in the Woodbine, Iowa area and graduated from Woodbine High School with the Class of 1948.
She taught country school for four years before going to work at a telephone company in Omaha, Nebraska. She moved to Alaska and worked for the United States Postal Service and then at Consolidated Airlines.
Donna moved to Florida and went back to work at a telephone company while living there. She ended up back in Iowa where she worked for the telephone company until she retired. She became a rest area attendant, working at the rest areas for eight years. She spent three years as a private contractor before retiring again.
She enjoyed raising and taking care of flowers and animals and spending time with her family.
Donna became a resident of Little Flower Haven Nursing Home in Earling, Iowa in December of 2013, where she died on Sunday, September 13, 2015, having attained the age of eighty-four years, ten months, and twenty-one days. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her children: Cindy Mathison, Becky Scofield, and Christopher Mathison all of Harlan, Iowa, Stephany Marshall of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Holly and her husband Kevin Gross of Earling, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; brother Dale Woodard of Julesburg, Colorado; many other family members and friends.
