Donna Unine Ross was born on October 4, 1935 to Duran and Thelma (Archer) Ross in Grand Island, Nebraska. She graduated from high school in Grand Island where she was raised by her paternal grandparents, George and Minnie Ross. She later studied nursing in Omaha.
She was married to Russell Lacy in 1951 in Grand Island. They became parents to three children: Durinda, Russell, and Helen.
Donna began working with her step-mother at a nursing home in Grand Island. She had a very loving personality, was compassionate, especially to those in pain, and was a great friend. In 1960, she was married to Stan Rasmussen. They made their home in Omaha, Nebraska. Donna later moved to Denison before settling in Harlan, Iowa, to be closer to her daughters. She enjoyed reading, especially about the sea, Egypt, and King Tut and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church since moving to Harlan.
Donna loved babies, and especially loved when her great-granddaughter would bring her great-great-grandson to see her at the nursing home. She loved everything red - clothes, flowers, even her curtains were red!
Donna retired from nursing in 1971 and became a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Home in 2005 where she died on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the age of eighty years, one month, and twenty-one days. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Jolene Jelineck.
She is survived by her children: Durinda Wellman of Harlan, Iowa, Russell Lacy of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Helen Purcell of Harlan; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; half-brothers: Carmie Ross, Jack Ross, Jerry Ross, and Tommy Ross; other family members and friends.
