Doris A. Chambers

Doris Chambers was born on July 22, 1923 to William and Emma (Kierscht) Heim in Logan, Iowa. She graduated from Logan High School with the Class of 1941. After her graduation, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Harrison County.
On November 5, 1945, Doris was united in marriage to Lavern Chambers. They moved to Persia, Iowa where they raised seven children: Bill, Janice, Janette, Bob, Ben, Jean, and JoAnne.
She worked as a Teacher’s Aide and Librarian for the Tri-Center Schools for twenty-four years before retiring in 1989.
In 2004, Doris moved to Hudson, Iowa, and later moved to Fowler, Colorado to be closer to her children. It was in Fowler that she died on Saturday, May 17, 2014 having attained the age of ninety years, nine months, and twenty-five days. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Emma Heim, husband Lavern, brother Bill Heim, daughter-in-law Susie Chambers, and sons-in-law Elliot Jennings and Larry McCulley.
She is survived by her children: William “Bill” Chambers of Manzanola, Colorado, Janice and her husband Ralph Feese of Roselle, Illinois, Janette McCulley of Hudson, Iowa, Robert “Bob” Chambers and his wife Kelly and Russell “Ben” Chambers and his wife Debbie all of Des Moines, Iowa, Jean Jennings of Woodridge, Illinois, and JoAnne and her husband Pat Bohl of Humboldt, South Dakota; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother Merle Heim and his wife Rose of Persia, Iowa; sisters: Juanita Johnson of Woodbine, Iowa, Marilyn Bosworth of San Marcos, California, and LaVonne and her husband Don Griffith of Webster City, Iowa; sister-in-law Ida “Toni” Heim of Harlan, Iowa; other family members and friends.
