Dorothy Ann Cox was born on April 9, 1930, the only child of Nels and Doris (Simonsen) Morck in Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church in Harlan and was a member there for several years. She attended the Harlan Schools through the seventh grade.

On June 11, 1965, Dorothy was united in marriage to Russell Stuart Cox at the Methodist Church in Tennant, Iowa. Tragically, Russell was killed by a fall from a grain bin just two months after their wedding.

Dorothy liked to watch television and listen to gospel and polka music. She loved animals, especially cats.

She was a current member of First Baptist Church in Harlan and enjoyed attending services and visiting with her church family.

She was a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Home in Harlan and it was there that she died on Thursday, April 12, 2012, having attained the age of eighty-two years and three days.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Nels and Doris Morck and her husband Russell Cox.

She is survived by her church family members and her friends.

Pastor Dan Hawn officiated the 10:30 AM funeral service on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Harlan, Iowa. Music was provided by Helen Warren and Jim Zea. Serving as casket bearers were Verle Arentson, Norman Schmitz, Dave Outhouse, John Gilliland, Keith Fiscus, Bryan Greve, and Ken Shetler. Interment was held at the Harlan Cemetery.
