Dorothy Mae Beck was born August 20, 1925, on a farm near Portland in Kossuth County, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and May Bowman Bleich. She was raised in Kossuth County where she graduated high school. On June 2, 1948, Dorothy was united in marriage with Alvin Ruben Beck at Riceville, Iowa. After completion of Alvin’s college in Fayette, Iowa, they made their home in Swea City, Iowa, where their union was blessed with three children: Judy, Kathie and Lee. After Alvin became a Federal Meat Inspector the family moved to Sioux City, Iowa, in 1960. Alvin’s career brought them to Denison, Iowa, in 1964 where she had since resided. In addition to being a homemaker, caring for her husband and children, Dorothy also enjoyed babysitting at various times through the years. In her leisure time Dorothy enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting, being a collector of many things, reading and keeping up with current events. She was a lover of animals and her pets, especially her last canine companion “Candy”. Alvin died January 20, 2008 and Dorothy remained in her home in Denison until moving to the Denison Care Center in Denison December 28, 2015. Dorothy died at the Denison Care Center Saturday afternoon February 27, 2016. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 90 years, 6 months and 7 days. Including her parents and husband, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her daughter Judy Beck, two granddaughters: Kristen and Katie Netley; two brothers: Herman and Lewis Bleich and one sister Emma Butterfield. Those remaining to cherish her memory include two children: Kathie and husband Dick Netley of Omaha, Nebraska and Lee Beck and wife Debbie of Elkhorn, Nebraska; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one sister, Gerry Hoffman of Grand Rapids, Michigan; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home, Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating. Music for the service included a recorded selection of “On the Wings of a Snow White Dove”. Pallbearers included Ryan Nath, Chad Nath, Eric Beck, Dick Netley, Mark Bilsten and Roger Kruse.
