Dorothy Mae Boldin was born on a farm near Fairfield, Iowa, May 9, 1920, the daughter of Harry and Launa Eagle Riley. In 1931 the family moved to Deloit, Iowa where she was raised, receiving her education in the Stockholm Township #8 rural school. On November 25, 1940 Dorothy was united in marriage with Edward Eggers and he was killed in action in the South Pacific July 9, 1943. In 1944 Dorothy moved to Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, where on September 16, 1947 she was united in marriage with Vincent Andrew Boldin at Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Their union was blessed with four children, Vincent, Harry, Elizabeth and Cecilia. In 1956 the family moved to Deloit, Iowa, and Dorothy was employed briefly at the Blue Jean Factory in LeMars, Iowa, before becoming a cook at Cronks and Jo-Mart in Denison. In 1962 Dorothy began a 20 year career with Farmland moving to Denison in 1973 and retiring from Farmland in 1982. Through the years Dorothy enjoyed many hobbies and interests including oil painting, quilting, working word search puzzles, was an avid card player and especially enjoyed playing bingo. She was happiest when she was able to spend time with her family. Dorothy was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, St. Rose of Lima Ladies Guild, assisted with bingo for many years popping popcorn and was a gold star member of the American Legion and VFW auxiliaries. Dorothy died Wednesday afternoon, November 14, 2007, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 87 years, 6 months and 5 days. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Edward and Vincent, and six siblings, James Riley, William Riley, Oral Riley, Helen Slechta, Maryalyce Bukacek, and George "Bud" Riley. Those remaining to cherish her memory include four children, Vincent Boldin of Coppell, Texas, Harry Boldin of Coppell, Texas, Elizabeth and husband, Roby Armstrong of Bedford, Texas and Cecilia Fineran of Denison, Iowa, seven grandchildren, Heather Boldin, Kristin Steinhaus, Trevor Boldin, Adam Boldin, Rachel Phelan, Shane Jansen and Alexis Fineran, two great grandchildren, Macy Steinhaus and Lauren Phelan, two sisters, Ada Helkenn of Schleswig, Iowa, and Lorene McCullough of Vail, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2007, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa, with Father Paul Kelly as Celebrant. Others participating in the mass included Christian Symbol Placers: Vincent and Harry Boldin, Elizabeth Armstrong and Cecilia Fineran; Servers, Cordell Magnuson and Sean Houston; Lector, Patricia Niehaus; Giftbearers, Lauren Phelan and Alexis Fineran and Eucharistic Ministers, Darlene Reis, Ione Hinners and Dan Pfannebecker. Music for the mass was provided by St. Rose of Lima Adult Choir singing "In The Garden", "You Are Mine", "Fly Like A Bird" and "O Loving God" with Jean Cornelius as accompanist. Pallbearers included Shane Jansen, Trevor Boldin, Raymond Helkenn, Tim Helkenn, Tom McCullough and Tommy McCullough. Interment was at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison. Following the interment the family invited all in attendance to join them at the Denison Senior Center for a time of fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the St. Rose of Lima Ladies Guild. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements where on Friday, November 16, 2007 a Legion of Mary Rosary, led by Richard and Rosemarie Penn was prayed at 4:30 p.m., a Memorial Tribute by the Deloit American Legion Auxiliary Unit 690 was held at 5:30 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service was held at 6:00 p.m. Online condolences may be directed to
