Dorothy Arlene Norgaard was born on June 18, 1924 to Arthur and Luella (Comstock) Savereide in Harlan, Iowa. She graduated from Harlan High School with the Class of 1942.
She was united in marriage to John M. Norgaard. They became parents to two children: Kathryn and Frederick.
Dorothy worked for several local attorneys and at several Harlan banks and businesses. She also spent twenty-three years at Farm Service Co-Op.
She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Harlan where she taught Sunday School, served as the choir director, was a soloist, and was the church organist for over forty years.
Dorothy taught piano lessons for over forty years and was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Zenobia Rebekah Lodge No. 267 for over fifty years.
Dorothy died on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the Salem Lutheran Nursing Home in Elk Horn, Iowa, at the age of ninety-one years, two months, and three days. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Frederick, and grandson Ryan Welch.
She is survived by her daughter Kathryn and her husband Steven Welch of Deerfield, Illinois; daughter-in-law Janice Norgaard of Golden Valley, Minnesota; grandchildren: Michael Norgaard and his wife Billy Jo and Michelle Norgaard all of Crystal, Minnesota and Timothy Welch of Chicago, Illinois; two great-grandchildren: Jay and Logan; three step-great-grandchildren: Brianne, Nathan, and Brooke; sisters: Marianne and her husband Richard Pauley of Lincoln, Nebraska, Pat Pedersen of New Berlin, Wisconsin, and Twyla and her husband Ron Plumb of Olathe, Kansas; other family members and friends.
