Douglas Milton Kiesel, the son of Elmer and Lucille W. (Emmons) Kiesel, was born on January 6, 1932 in Shelby, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Shelby High School in 1950. On April 30, 1953, he married Betty Jane Best, at the Shelby Methodist Church. To this union two children were born: Mike and Linda.
Doug enlisted in the service on December 10, 1952, and was honorable discharged on October 29, 1954. He was active during the Korean War. Doug drove truck for Kiesel Brothers Trucking from 1954 - 1967. He then went to work at Farmers Elevator for four years and eventually landed a job at the Iowa Department of Transportation and was employed for 23 years.
On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, Doug passed away surrounded by family at Elm Crest Retirement Community Center, having attained the age of 92 years, 10 months and 28 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Donald and sisters Millie and Bev.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Betty Kiesel of Shelby, Iowa; children Mike and wife Vicki Kiesel of Villisca, Iowa; Linda and husband Brian Kock of Harlan, Iowa; brothers Darrell Kiesel and wife Sharon of Shelby, Iowa; Merle Kiesel of Custer, South Dakota; Ronnie Kiesel of Shelby, Iowa; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; other family and many friends.
