Douglas Brian Langer, son of Donald and Betty (Carroll) Langer, was born on March 26, 1948 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He attended grade school in Walnut, Hancock and Avoca, and graduated from Avo-Ha in 1966. After graduation he attended Iowa State University for a year and played baseball.
In 1967, he was united in marriage to Barbara Stevens. To this union 2 children were born: Dawn and Brian. The two later divorced and he was united in marriage to Cheryl Paulsen in 1982. To this union they had 3 children: Misty, Brandt and Kelsey.
Doug spent most of his working life as a system analyst for Union Pacific Railroad. He retired after 35 years with the company and spent the next 10 years managing the Avoca Clubhouse. He was notably known for his play-by-play action on Friday nights at all Viking Football games for over 20 years and enjoyed working and helping Dale Kardell with harvest. Doug loved playing cards, the Cubs, the ISU Cyclones and supporting all Viking athletics.
On Thursday, August 4, 2022, Doug passed away at his home, having attained the age of 74 years, 4 months and 9 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Betty.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Dawn (Mike) Whelton of Omaha, Nebraska; Brian (Jen) Langer of Walnut, Iowa; Misty (Ben) Tornblom of Shelby, Iowa; Brandt (Heidi) Langer of Harlan, Iowa; Kelsey (Blake) Peterson of Shelby, Iowa; 13 grandchildren: Dustin Perkins, Steven and Haylie Breaman; Brody and Ella Langer; Kaly, Tessa, Max and Liam Tornblom; Easton and Maci Langer; Leighton and Beckett Peterson; 2 great-grandchildren Sage and Dean; siblings Denny (Penny) Langer of Hancock, Iowa; Laurie (Craig) Tietjen of Scottsdale, Arizona; Lynette Langer of Avoca, Iowa; nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.
