Douglas William Linden was born on January 24, 1928, to Oscar and Edith (McKeighan) Linden in Portsmouth, Iowa, and grew up near Tennant, Iowa. Douglas attended school in Tennant, graduating from high school with the Class of 1945. He began his farming career shortly after completing his education.
Douglas was united in marriage to Ellen Sorensen on February 21, 1950, at the Tennant Methodist Church. Four children were born to this union: Barbara, Sandra, Mary, and Brian. The family lived near Avoca, Harlan, and Corley, but mostly near Walnut, where he was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and trustee for the church until moving to Harlan in 1975. He became a member of First Baptist Church in Harlan on July 8, 1979.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, taking them on camping trips and being involved in his grandchildrens activities. He also loved tending to his garden and playing with the grandchildrens dogs.
Douglas worked at his daughters farm after moving to Harlan until his retirement in 1990; although he never truly retired since he was unable to sit still for long. He continued to help out at the farm and spent lots of time with his grandchildren. He was a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather.
