Doyle Eugene Gilland, Jr., was born on July 8th, 1957 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to the late Doyle Gilland Sr. and Dorothy J. Davis (Blankenship).
Doyle was the owner of Gilland Trucking and operated mainly in the Western Iowa area. After his ownership of over 25 years, he began working at the Menard's Distribution Center in Shelby. Doyle was the owner of "Doyle's Place" in Shelby, IA from 2010 through 2014. He served on the Shelby, IA City Council for a total of 6 years from 2012 to 2013 and again from 2016 to 2019. He was a member of the St. Mary's Parish and the Avoca Walnut Knights of Columbus Council 12133. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed watching Dale Earnhardt race, but not nearly as much as he enjoyed watching his children play sports.
Doyle passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 28th, 2019 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, having attained the age of sixty-one years, ten months and twenty days. In addition to his parents, Doyle was preceded in death by his brother Timmy.
Doyle is survived by his wife of 29 years, Julie (Kennebeck) Gilland. Sons; Gunner and Garret of Carroll, Iowa; daughter Katelyn (Matthew) of Shelby, Iowa; grandson Brantley of Carroll, Iowa; siblings Rick (Cathy) Gilland of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Kim Stewart of Omaha; Ron Stewart of Sacramento, California; Les (Pam) Davis of St. Augustine, Florida; Mary (Jim) Latner of Atchison, Kansas; many friends, nieces, nephews, other beloved family members, and a community who loved him.
