Eden Scot Shaeffer of Avoca, Iowa passed away March 30, 2023. She was born January 17, 2003, in Amarillo, Texas to Aaron and Cynthia Shaeffer.
Eden was simply an ethereal being. Her smile was 1000 watts, lighting up everyone who saw it. She loved to laugh, she laughed loud and made others laugh until they cried. She loved with her whole face. Eden was love.
She brought the sunshine with her everywhere she went. She was unforgettable. We know that in her short life, she had people she only interacted with once remember her. Eden was love.
Eden embraced all aspects of life, and she embodied them. She loved makeup, fashion, and beauty. She could be ultra glam but also connected to the natural aspects of life around her, all at once. Her appreciation for all living beings was awe inspiring. Animals were drawn to her gentle, loving spirit. Eden was love.
Her relationship with her sister Maeve inspired us all, we stood in awe and maybe a little jealously at the connection they shared, which was deep and unyielding. Eden loved all of her siblings like a tiny little momma bear. She was so protective of their spirits. Eden was love.
She had innumerable friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, second moms, coworkers, fellow students, former and current teachers and professors she adored. Everyone was Eden’s adopted family. Eden was love.
Her parents could not have been prouder of her. She was good at everything she tried; she wore many hats. She graduated suma cum laude from high school and was on the dean’s list her freshman year at Iowa. She was very active in several extracurricular activities, but especially excelled at mock trial. She played multiple instruments including trumpet, french horn, and mellophone. She loved choir and show choir and had a beautiful singing voice. And of course, she had spectacular dance moves, sometimes at seemingly inappropriate times, but that was part of her light. Eden was love.
She was the light of our lives, the comic relief, and the healer of our wounds. From the time she was born, she brought more fun, more joy, and more love than any parent could ever ask for. Eden was love.
As we celebrate her life, we find peace with the knowledge that we were all her family, we shared her with the world.
