Edward Herbert Fisher III, son of Edward Herbert Fisher II and Catherine Grace Crothers, was born October 23, 1956 in San Diego, California. He attended school at Pacific Beach Middle School and graduated from Mission Bay High School in San Diego.
Ed furthered his education at the University of California in San Diego, receiving his BA with honors in bioengineering in 1978 and attending the School of Medicine receiving his M.D. in 1982. He served his internship in surgery from June 1982 until July 1983 then went on to the Residency of Orthopedic Surgery program from July 1983 until June 1987 at the University of California.
In 1983, he received his State of California license as a M.D. and also served as a diplomat on the National Board of Medical Examiners. Ed was also licensed in Alabama in 1994 and Mississippi in 2009. He was certified with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in 1989 and later 1999 to the present time. He was also certified with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons in 1991.
Ed acquired his private pilot’s license in 2003 and enjoyed flying his own plane as often as he could. He also vacationed where there was either snow capped mountains, or the deep sea so he could either scuba dive or snow ski. Ed and his family enjoyed traveling to a wide variety of places that offered the challenges of skiing and relaxing in the deep blue. One of his most rewarding experiences was hard to call work, and that was practicing orthopedics and helping people. Being a son of music teachers, Ed played several musical instruments but, the flute was his favorite.
Edward died unexpectedly Thursday, December 15, 2016 at his home in Harlan, Iowa attaining the age of sixty years, one month and twenty-two days. He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife Maggie Fisher of Harlan, Iowa; mother Catherine Crothers of San Diego, California; children Edward Herbert Fisher IV “E.J.” and his wife Caroline of Santa Monica, California; Millie Christina Fisher of Birmingham, Alabama; two children through his marriage with Maggie, Megan and Ryan Swift; two grandchildren; brothers David Fisher and his wife Mardy of San Diego; Arthur Fisher of San Diego; aunts and uncle Margery and her husband Van Vanderpool; Claudia Allen; many cousins all of San Diego; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
