Edward Herman Schillerberg was born in Denison, Iowa, October 26, 1946, To Harold and M. Darlyne (Christensen) Schillerberg. He was baptized November 28, 1946, and confirmed on April 15, 1962, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Ed graduated from Denison High School in 1965. After graduation Ed immediately joined the US Marine Corps in June 1965. He eventually spent thirteen and a half months overseas. During his term in Vietnam, he received the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Medal M-14. He was Honorably discharged as a Corporal E-4 in April 1969.
He married Lois Krueger on December 21, 1969. He spent his time farming and doing various entrepreneurial ventures. They had three children. During their marriage they built homes in Walthill, NE and later in Norwalk, IA in which they raised their family. In 1988 he started Schillerberg Construction, and his son Justin helped him with various jobs.
He married Peggy Merkle on July 9, 1994. They built another home in Norwalk, IA and later in life moved to Cripple Creek, CO where they built and operated a Bed and Breakfast in the mountains.
He lived with his sons Shane and Justin for several years in Omaha. In 2015 he was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's. He lived at Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home in Bellevue, NE from 2018 until his death on Feb. 5th, 2024. Ed is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include 4 children Shawn Gordon and her husband Keith of Grimes, IA, Shane Schillerberg of Omaha, NE, Justin Schillerberg and his wife Therese of Omaha, NE. Shawn Hopkins and his wife Kara of Raymore, MO, 5 grandchildren Jeffery, Lynsea, Devon, Kristopher and Collin. 1 great grandchild Addie. 5 sisters Nancy Barango of Palmetto, FL, Lois Hofer and her husband Paul of Aurora, CO, Shirley Kloes and her husband Thomas of Menasha, WI, Susan Smilie and her husband Gene of IL, Alice Schillerberg and her husband Michael Albrich of Portland, OR. 11 nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home, where Edward spent his final years.
