Edwin H. Nihsen
December 18, 1920 — July 1, 2013
Edwin H. Nihsen was born on December 18, 1920 to Christen and Anna (Thies) Nihsen in Minden, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the Minden United Church of Christ where he remained a life-long member. He attended country school in York Township until the eighth grade when he left to begin farming with his dad. While in school, he showed an interest in agriculture and was in the 4-H club.
In addition to growing crops, Edwin raised cattle and hogs when he was farming on his own. He liked to go hunting and always kept his yard and machinery looking good.
Even after having a farm sale in 1991, Edwin never really retired. He continued to live on the farm, even after having different surgeries and when he turned ninety.
It was only two weeks ago that Edwin moved to the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center which is where he died on Monday, July 1, 2013 having attained the age of ninety-two years, six months, and thirteen days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marjorie Nihsen. He is survived by many cousins, friends, and neighbors.
Pastor Donna Ewert officiated the 10:00 AM funeral service at the United Church of Christ in Minden, Iowa, on Saturday, July 6, 2013. Burial was held in the Minden Cemetery with Adam Nihsen, Arlan Darrington, David Thies, Bob Hundt, Randy Lamp, and Stan Thies serving as casket bearers.
