Edwin Dale Olson, the son of Ernest and Grace (Adams) Olson, was born on October 21, 1923 in Kirkman, Iowa. He graduated from Harlan High School in 1941 and started farming with his dad near Kirkman.
On October 20, 1946, Edwin married Wilma Schnack at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa. Five children were born to this union: Janet, Carol, Wayne, Allan and Linda. Edwin was a lifelong farmer in the Kirkman area, where he was also a Pioneer Seed dealer.
In 2013, Edwin suffered a fall in his home, which resulted in a spinal cord injury and he became a resident of the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. This is where he died on January 8, 2017, having attained the age of ninety-three years, two months and eighteen days. He was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
In addition to his parents, Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, of sixty-four years in 2011; his daughter, Janet A. Christensen; his brother Alfred Olson; and five sisters, Norma Jean and Lucille, who died in infancy, Arlene Blackburn, Betty Erickson, and Barbara McLaren.
Edwin is survived by two sons, Wayne Olson and his wife Donna of Kimballton, Iowa and Allan Olson and his wife Andrea of Griswold, Iowa; two daughters, Carol and her husband Jim Porter of Louisville, Kentucky, and Linda and her husband Jim Weiss of Tucson, Arizona; eleven grandchildren, Mark Christensen, Eric (Megan) Porter, Dana Porter (Brien McMullen), John (Melanie) Olson, Kristin (Brian) Koch, Ben (Shana) Olson, Elizabeth (Sean) Croghan, Leah (Brent) Biggs, Brian Olson, Jessica (Scott) Clines, Micala (Lucas) Baer; twenty-two great grandchildren; two sisters, Jane Fuller of Edina, Minnesota, and Marilyn Meier of Lancaster, California; one sister-in-law, Rose Ann Schnack; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
